Empowering moments are powerful moments. Unfortunately they frequently occur in our imaginations after the fact - what we should have said - what we wish we'd said.
How many times have we allowed others to treat us poorly or overstep our boundaries because we didn't want to embarrass them by pointing out (a) reasonable boundaries, and (b) their poor behavior? Women - overwhelmingly - are nurturers. I believe it is part of our DNA, but how many times have we opted to be polite to our detriment? What we don't realize is that it is OK - HONORABLE - to be honest. Speak your heart, respectfully. Unfortunately it doesn't mean that others will behave in kind (see The Disappearing Man), but in the end isn't it all about looking back and knowing you lived the best life you could and treated others with grace?
Shouldn't we extend the same courtesy and respect to ourselves? Self-respect is the essence of an empowering moment.
