Dear Manspam,
My boyfriend of eight months confessed to me that he thought he was gay. Even though my heart was breaking I tried to be supportive - needless to say we broke up (at MY suggestion). Now four months later he says he wants me back and said he was gay to make breaking up easier for me.
What should I do?
Signed, Gay or Not Gay, that is the Question
Dear Gay,
No straight man puts himself on the other team's roster without being sure he's willing to go up to bat or at least catch a few balls. Men don't use that excuse without there being some truth to the statement, unlike a woman whose appeal would likely end up being enhanced in the eyes of the opposite sex.
It's possible G.I. Gay suffered from stage fright at the prospect of high-kicking out of the closet. Open that closet door and take a good look around. Be honest with yourself. Chances are there are many clues to his sexuality that you've overlooked or (more likely) ignored. Gay or not gay might be the question, but I think you know the answer.
Manspam advice: Don't be his beard. Make sure a man likes you BECAUSE you have a hoo-hoo, not in spite of it. On the bright side: you can warn prospective suitors that because you're so much woman, you've been know to turn men gay.
